TRANSPORTATION

Once a stopping point for stage coaches, due to its geographical location in central Connecticut between New York and Boston , Newington now offers convenient access to Interstates I-91 and I-84, the Berlin Turnpike and Merritt Parkway (Routes 5-15) and Route 9.

Newington is readily accessible by train, plane, bus and automobile on well maintained roads and interstate highways. Commercial air service is available twenty minutes north of Newington at Bradley International Airport . Hartford-Brainard Airport is minutes away from Newington . Amtrak train service can be conveniently obtained Union Place in Hartford which is also the transit center for Greyhound and Peter Pan bus lines.

Regional bus service is provided by CTTRANSIT's Hartford Division which operates over 30 local and 12 express bus routes. Local routes operate 7 days a week, serving 26 towns in the Capital Region. CTTRANSIT's Hartford Division makes connections with Middletown Area Transit, and the CTTRANSIT New Britain division.

Newington has a convenient Park & Ride lot located adjacent to the DOT Headquarters building on the Berlin Turnpike.

The New Britain - Hartford Busway was selected as one of ten Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) demonstration projects. The BRT initiative aims to implement projects that improve the speed, reliability and convenience of bus service, along with improving mobility and promoting a healthy environment. The New Britain - Hartford Busway is an exclusive 9.4-mile long busway linking downtown New Britain with Hartford 's Union Station. The busway, the first in the State of Connecticut , will run along active and inactive railroad rights-of-way through four cities/towns: New Britain , Newington , West Hartford and Hartford .
