Education

Many residents choose to live in Newington because of the quality and reputation of its school system overseen by a nine-member Board of Education. Newington has an exemplary education system, which has received both regional accreditation and national recognition, with four elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and two private schools. A complete array of educational support and extra curricular activities is available throughout the school system. Early childhood programs, computer labs, traditional coursework and creative curricula underscore Newington 's emphasis on education. Special services for handicapped students are part of the curricula.

The mission of the Newington Public Schools System, an educational partnership of school, family and community, is to ensure every student acquires the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to continue to learn, live a productive life, and contribute to a diverse, rapidly changing society. This is accomplished within a caring environment through a planned program of quality learning experiences that challenge and encourage each individual to reach full potential.

Newington Elementary Children's Center (NECCI) has centers located conveniently in each of the elementary schools and is available only for students attending the respective school.

The Newington Chamber of Commerce is host of the annual Career Day at Newington High School to enable business to participate in the educational process and provide opportunity for students to speak with representatives of the business community.

Newington is just minutes away from Central Connecticut State University , University of Connecticut Health Center, UConn School of Law, the Hartt School of Music, St. Joseph 's College, Trinity College , University of Hartford and other universities, colleges and community colleges.
