Newington is a family-friendly community, with activities for young and old, and everyone in between. Our Parks & Recreation Department is celebrating its 50 th anniversary and is the host of the annual Mill Pond Park Extravaganza in July. Our beautiful park facilities provide a focus for family fun for our nearly 30,000 residents. Public amenities, including three town swimming pools and tennis courts, are up-to-date and well maintained.

P&R also provides a quarterly program guide which extensively covers sports and other activities in town. Newington is home of the Indian Hill Country Club and the Newington Arena, an ice skating facility where some Olympic athletes train. Newington was incorporated on July 10, 1871 and has a council/manager form of government. The town council consists of eight members who represent all districts of the town. The council meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m.

From a business point of view, Newington has ten industrial parks and boasts such corporate tenants as Northeast Utilities, Tilcon Connecticut , Data Mail, Keeney Manufacturing and Kohler Mix Specialties. There are also a number of professional office parks within the Town offering attractive space to the business community. Although the Town has a strong business presence, it also has a wide variety of housing from condominiums to private homes, a perfect combination to make Newington a quality place to live in - as well as to do business.
