Located in Hartford County , Newington is very convenient for residents commuting to Hartford as well as other major places of employment. This suburban, residential community with a population of about 30,000 is located six miles south of Hartford.

Many of Newington 's current residents are descendants of early Wethersfield settlers who were given grants for new farms on the western frontier [ Newington ] of their riverside town.


Residents of the Newington community continue to be committed to maintaining their ethnic heritage. Newington ethnic organizations include the Polish American Club, the Portuguese Club, Newington UNICO and the Hartford Saengerbund.

   

Based on 2005 statistics, 56% of Newington 's population is between the ages of 25 and 65. The work ethic is strong – Newington 's unemployment rate is 4.3%* which is lower than the State average. Nearly 3,000 residents also work within town.
